The Effectiveness of Film as a Medium in Guidance and Counseling Services for Enhancing Students’ Emotional Intelligence
Abstract
Emotional intelligence is an important ability that students need to manage their emotions, build social relationships, and deal with various problems in everyday life. However, some students still experience difficulties in controlling their emotions, lack empathy, and are unable to interact positively in the school environment. One effort to improve emotional intelligence is through guidance and counseling services supported by film media that are engaging and communicative. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using film media in guidance and counseling services to improve students' emotional intelligence. This study employed a quantitative approach with an experimental method. Data were collected through an emotional intelligence questionnaire administered before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed using statistical tests to determine changes in students' emotional intelligence levels. The results showed that the use of film media in guidance and counseling services was effective in improving students' emotional intelligence. Film media helped students understand emotions, increase empathy, develop self-control, and understand the service materials through visual presentation and storylines relevant to their lives. Therefore, film media can serve as an innovative and effective alternative medium to support students' emotional development.
